GETTING THE MOST FROM
The NCO Community Engagement Pipeline Videoconference

  • Print the Videoconference agenda and PowerPoint slides posted above.
  • Gather colleagues at your station. Include people you count on for support to make things happen, those who understand the possibilities for community engagement and people you really want to have involved. Popcorn is always a good idea!
  • Prior to watching the Videoconference clips, present to your co-workers:
  • • Who in the community you have engaged and reached in the past
    • Your current community engagement plans
    • Your aspirations for having greater impact
  • Pull out your station's strategic plan. Use it as a resource to see how the initiatives in the videoconference might fit with your strategic plan.
  • As you are viewing, think about:
  • • Which genres fit your station strategies?
    • Arts & Culture, Children, Drama, Diversity & Race, Environment, Health, History, International/Global, Literacy, News & Views, Religion, Science & Nature, Violence Prevention
    • What targeted audiences come to mind?
    • African American/Black, Asian, Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Pacific Islanders, White-Caucasians, LGBT
    • Who are possible stakeholders and partners?
    • Childcare Centers, Corporations, Hospitals & Health Organizations, Libraries & Museums, Local & National Government Offices, Commercial Media, Other Public Radio Stations, Other Public Television Stations, Religious Organizations, Schools, Service and Civic Organizations, United Ways, Colleges/Universities, Youth Organizations
  • Following the Videoconference, discuss with your colleagues which efforts resonated with them and why.
  • Set up a meeting with your GM to discuss ideas. Schedule a follow-up meeting with colleagues who watched with you, as well as others you want to have at the table.
